You absolutely need to use ripe watermleon for the best watermelon strawberry salad. Here are some ways to tell:

  • Use ripe watermelon. You’ll know it’s perfect when the stem/field spot is a dark yellow hue.
  • Round watermelons are usually sweeter than other watermelons.
  • It should feel heavier than it looks. That’s how you know the water content is high and that the watermelon is juicy,

Watermelon Strawberry Salad Recipe Variations

  • Watermelon Strawberry Salad with Balsamic: For a bolder flavor, add balsamic vinegar.

Can Watermelon Strawberry Salad Be Made Ahead?

You can make this up to 12 hours ahead but do not add the dressing until you are ready to serve. I also advise adding the feta cheese just before serving so it doesn’t absorb the juices of the fruit.

Storing Leftovers

Store leftover salad in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
