When prepping for the arrival of our baby, I knew I wanted to set myself up for a smoother transition. With a toddler already in the house and summer around the corner, the last thing I wanted to worry about was what to make for dinner while running on no sleep. So I made it my mission to stock our freezer with easy, nourishing postpartum freezer meals that I could just defrost, toss in a pan, Instant Pot, Crockpot or on the grill, and be done.

Prepping freezer meals before baby’s arrival was the best thing I did for myself. Postpartum is beautiful, messy, exhausting, and the last thing I wanted to think about was cooking from scratch. These freezer meals made a world of a difference.
Whether you’re expecting your first baby or your third, these postpartum freezer meals are total lifesavers especially if you’re having a spring or summer baby and want to take advantage of grilling season. A lot of our marinades are warm-weather friendly and perfect for tossing on the grill while still keeping things low-effort.

Why You Should Prep Freezer Meals for Postpartum
You wont have the time, or the energy – Newborn life is beautiful, but it’s also exhausting. Having meals that are ready to go means you’re not relying on takeout or struggling to cook.
Your body needs real food to heal – Think protein, healthy fats, and meals with minimal effort. These recipes support recovery and fuel you through cluster feeds, diaper changes, and everything in between.
It reduces mental load – You already have a million things on your mind. Taking mealtime off the list? That’s peace of mind you didn’t know you needed.

Tips for Prepping Postpartum Freezer Meals
- Start Early, Pace Yourself: I began prepping in my third trimester nothing too intense, just a few meals each week. It added up quickly without feeling overwhelming. The later you start, the more stressful it will be.
- Focus on Marinades and One-Pan Meals: Marinades and one pan meals are your best friend. You can prep the protein, freeze it, dump everything in a bag and hand it off to your partner or toss it in a pan or Instant Pot.
- Label Everything: Write the name, date, and basic instructions on each bag or container. Sleep-deprived you will thank pregnant you later.
- Write out a freezer inventory: Things can get lost in the freezer, especially in a deep freezer and you don’t want to forget all the meals you spent so much time prepping. We kept an inventory on our phone and each week we built a meal plan from our freezer and pantry. Make sure to check meals off the inventory list once you cook them.

Soy-Glazed Chicken Meatballs
These are always a win in my house! Simply make fresh chicken meatballs and the sauce on the side then freeze. When its time to eat, you can bake them then toss in the sauce or cook them on the stovetop then pour the sauce on top. They are delicious with rice, noodles, or even veggie stir fry.
Ingredients for Soy-Glazed Chicken Meatballs
For the meatballs:
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 3 garlic cloves, grated
- 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger (or 1/2 tsp ground ginger)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 bulbs of green onion, finely chopped
- Salt & pepper to taste
For the glaze (make fresh or freeze separately):
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (to thicken)
Cooking Instructions (from frozen):
- Oven: Preheat to 400°F. Place frozen meatballs on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until cooked through (internal temp 160°F).
- Stovetop: Brown frozen meatballs in a skillet, then simmer in sauce for 15–20 minutes until cooked through.
- In a small saucepan, combine glaze ingredients and simmer until slightly thickened. Toss meatballs in glaze and serve.
Here are two key tips for freezing raw meatballs:
Use Airtight Packaging: Transfer the frozen meatballs to a freezer-safe bag or container. Squeeze out as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn, and label with the date. They’ll keep well for up to 3 months.
Flash Freeze First: Arrange the raw meatballs in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they don’t touch. Freeze for 1–2 hours until solid. This prevents them from sticking together when stored.

How I Prepped and Stored My Postpartum Freezer Meals
When it came time to prep all these meals, I wanted to make sure they’d stay fresh for as long as possible, especially since I was starting a few weeks before my due date. I used the FoodSaver Elite All-in-One Liquid+™ Vacuum Sealer for everything. It’s hands-down one of my favorite tools because it seals both solids and liquids, which is a game changer when you’re working with marinades or stews. If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly or beginner-friendly, the FoodSaver PowerVac Compact Vacuum Sealing Machine is a great option too.

For soups, stews, and anything saucy, I first froze them in Souper Cubes freezer molds to portion them into perfect individual servings. Once frozen solid, I popped the cubes out and vacuum sealed them in portions. This made it super easy to just grab what I needed without defrosting a whole batch.
