If you’re anything like me, mornings with a toddler can be a whirlwind. Between getting everyone ready, finding matching socks, breakfast needs to be simple, quick, and most importantly, something my toddler will actually eat. I batch-make these freezer-friendly mini waffles all the time, and they’ve become a breakfast staple for us. Not only are they healthier than store-bought freezer waffles, but they’re also incredibly easy to make and perfect for meal prepping.

Why Homemade Waffles for Kids

Let’s be real, store-bought waffles are convenient, but have you looked at the ingredient list? Yikes! I wanted something better for my toddler, something I could feel good about giving her every day. These healthy mini waffles are just that – no added sugar, made with wholesome ingredients, and they still taste amazing. Plus, they’re freezer-friendly, making them the ultimate grab-and-go breakfast.

Reasons You’ll Love These Mini Waffles for Kids

Meal Prep Friendly: Make a big batch, freeze them, and you’ve got breakfast sorted for the week (or longer!).

Healthy & Sugar-Free: No sugar added means I don’t have to worry about my toddler bouncing off the walls after breakfast. I just add maple syrup when serving but you can also naturally sweeten them with ingredients like bananas or applesauce.

Toddler & Family Approved: My toddler devours these waffles, and I have to admit, I sneak a few for myself too. They’re perfect for kids and adults alike, making them a great family breakfast option.

How to Make Homemade Mini Waffles

In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: milk, egg, vanilla extract and coconut oil.

Combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until combined.

Preheat your mini waffle maker and lightly grease with cooking spray. This is the waffle maker I use.

Pour about 1/4 cup of batter for each waffle into the preheated mini waffle maker and cook cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It should takes about 3-5 minutes per waffle.

Let the waffles cool on a wire rack completely before transferring them to a freeze safe bag and freeing.

Ideas for Waffle Toppings

One of the best things about these homemade mini waffles is how versatile they are. Here are some ideas for waffle toppings that our family loves:

  • Top it off with fresh fruits
  • Spread your favorite nut butter on top. Nut butter and banana slices makes the best toppings
  • Add a dollop of greek yogurt and a sprinkle of granola
  • My kid loves whip cream topped with these dye-free sprinkles

Nutritional Booster for Mini Waffles

Try adding Tiny Sprouts Nutrition Boosters to the batter. In this recipe I added their hemp hearts for an extra boost of protein and omega-3s. These nutritional boosters are great for adding into many recipes for your little ones.

How to Store and Reheat

Let the waffles cool completely on a wire rack. Once the waffles are cooled transfer them to a freezer safe storage bag or airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.

To reheat, simply pop the frozen waffles into the toaster or toaster oven. They’ll come out crispy and warm, just like fresh.
