Remarkably, this recipe caters seamlessly to the dietary needs of little ones with gluten sensitivities or families who have embraced the gluten-free lifestyle. Yes, this recipe can be adapted for babies who are just starting solids. To make it more baby-friendly, steam or boil the broccoli until it’s very soft and then mash it thoroughly or blend it into a puree. You can also consider forming small patties for easy handling by little hands.

Additionally, consider omitting any added salt or using a minimal amount to ensure it aligns with recommended guidelines for introducing salt to babies.

Success Tips

  • Ensure the broccoli is finely chopped to create a uniform texture in the tots, making them more appealing for toddlers.
  • Steam or precook the broccoli to ensure it’s tender when mixed into the tots. This step contributes to the overall texture and taste.
  • Take your time to shape the tots evenly. This not only ensures they cook uniformly but also enhances the visual appeal for kids. You can also make them into balls.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  • Serve with a dipping sauce, such as ranch or ketchup, to make the tots even more enjoyable for toddlers.

How to Store and Reheat

Storage: Allow the homemade broccoli tots to cool to room temperature before storing. Place them in an airtight container to prevent moisture and keep them fresh. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. To reheat, bake in the oven or air fryer for 10-15 minutes on 350°F (175°C). If using a microwave, Heat in 20-30 second intervals until warmed through. Check the temperature and adjust the time accordingly.

Freezing (Optional): If you want to store them for a longer period, you can freeze the broccoli tots. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Then transfer them to a freezer bag or airtight container. Label with the date and store in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. To reheat, Place frozen tots on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are thoroughly heated, flipping them halfway through.

Trying these for the first time! Just curious of storage for leftover mixture. Or if I cook them all about how long they last fresh.

These are SO. MUCH. BETTER. than the store freezer version!!! We have been regularly using these as a starch/vegetable replacement with our nightly meals and we LOVE them. They are great plain, or dipped in ranch dressing or bbq sauce. They take no time to make, are a MUCH healthier choice, and can be made in multiples and frozen.
