Bruleed Orange and Thyme Bourbon Cocktail

Brûléed orange and thyme bourbon cocktail is the ultimate winter cocktail made with fresh sprigs of thyme muddled with citrusy flavors and completed with Fresh Victor lemon sour cocktail mixer. This is the perfect cocktail for those cooler nights. It is warm, aromatic, and refreshing . A unique part of this cocktail is the brûléed oranges. All it is is orange slices sprinkled with sugar and roasted in an oven. It is super easy to make and takes a basic cocktail to bar quality.

Brûléed Oranges

Brûléed citrus is the ultimate winter garnish for they are in peak season right now. They add a pretty touch and sweet caramel depth of flavor to any cocktail. Here is how to brûlée citrus for cocktails:

You will need:

1 orange and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar

Slice oranges into thin wheels. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper then lay the slices flat on the tray. Dab with paper towel to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle each slice with granulated sugar and broil on high for 5-10 minutes or until the sugar has turned golden brown. Allow brûléed slices to cool before adding them to cocktail.

Tips for brûléeing

  • Cut fruit in thin slices.
  • Make sure to remove as much moisture as possible to prevent sugar from dissolving.
  • Immediately add fruit to oven after adding sugar. If the sugar dissolves it will not brûlée.
  • Slice the fruit in the shape you will be serving before brûléeing otherwise the sugar will crack and fall off.

How to get fresh aromatic thyme flavor:

Add fresh thyme, lemon wedge and maple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Muddle for 1-2 minutes to release the juices from thyme and lemon. This adds a unique fresh and earthy depth of flavor to the cocktail. You do not want to skip this step.
