How to Make Banana Oat Baked Donuts

Making homemade baked donuts with oats is as easy as mashing a banana.

Start with ripe bananas for natural sweetness. The riper, the better! Mash the banana really well then add the egg, milk, melted butter, vanilla extract and maple syrup.

Now, add the flour,, oats, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and a pinch of salt.

Pour the mixture into a donut pan and bake until golden and a fluffy.

Kid-Friendly Toppings for Baked Donuts

This is where things get fun! My little one loves sprinkling blueberries and colorful sprinkles on top. But here are some ideas for you:

  • Nut Butters: Add a layer of almond of peanut butter
  • Fresh Fruits: Try adding fruits like strawberries or even strawberries.
  • Others: Coconut flakes, chocolate or these fun dye-free sprinkles.

Tips for Success

Here are some tips and tricks to help you make the most delicious baked donuts every time:

  • Use a Nonstick Donut Pan: Invest in a good-quality nonstick donut pan to ensure your donuts release cleanly. Lightly greasing the pan with cooking spray or brushing with melted butter can also help prevent sticking.
  • Pipe the Batter for Evenness: Instead of spooning the batter into the pan, transfer it into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. This makes filling the molds easier and ensures each donut is uniform.
  • Don’t Overfill the Pan: Fill the molds about 2/3 full. Overfilling can cause the batter to spill over, losing that classic donut shape.
  • Cool Before Removing: Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Removing them too soon can cause them to break apart.
