Food is Medicine
As a Jamaican-American creator and former track athlete, I have always had a passion for health and wellness. Growing up in Jamaica, I was influenced by holistic medicine and the concept of using fresh, organic food in cooking. When I migrated to the United States and left home for college, my relationship with food changed. I struggled with finding a balance between eating well, nourishing my body, and enjoying life. It was then that I learned how to appreciate the privilege of having access to organic food ingredients. Can you tell that I missed home?
Being an African American, first-generation student-athlete, living well seemed far-fetched, out of budget, and unattainable. I wanted to feel good inside and out, so I explored finding a balance between several things, like being a broke college student, seeing women of color underrepresented in the wellness sphere, and not having access to fresh foods.
My journey was transformative. It was no longer about name-brand organic products, eating salad every day, having a personal trainer, or attending yoga classes. I focused heavily on listening to my body’s needs, which renewed my mindset. For me, a healthy lifestyle is about finding fulfillment in life. It encompasses loving my whole self and finding joy in every meal I prepare and eat.
I want all women, especially women of color, to know that eating well is possible without sacrificing flavor, emptying their pockets, or spending hours in the kitchen. I was a college student and working millennial trying to balance my 9-5 job, plus take care of myself. I see you, and I understand you. As a new mom, I also understand the challenges of juggling family life while still cooking delicious, wholesome meals. I am here to help you feel confident in the kitchen and be the superstar you are. For the latest healthy eats, check out my recipe index.
Beyond food, I invite you to follow along my journey of motherhood, day-to-day lifestyle practices, mindset building, and my love for Jesus. Make yourself at home and read all about how I am growing and overflowing in wellness and motherhood on my blog. You are going to love it here.
